Neuronal dynamics and axonal flow: axonal peristalsis.
نویسنده
چکیده
By time-lapse, phase-contrast cinemicrography of sensory nerve fibers of young mice, isolated with their originating spinal ganglia in nutrient solution, the postulated peristaltic surface drive of the cellulifugal propulsion of the semisolid axonal column at a rate of the order of 1 mm/day (1 mum/min) could be verified and quantitatively analyzed. The pulse waves follow each other at about 30-min intervals, regardless of whether the continuity of the axon is preserved or disrupted by degenerative fragmentation. Even when the axonal flow is obstructed, surface peristalsis continues.

P152: Neurotoxicants and Mechanisms Neurodegenerative in Acrylamide
Many chemicals with broad industrial, pharmaceutical and agricultural application produce a neurotoxic syndrome in humans and experimental animals involving weight loss, skeletal muscle weakness and ataxia. Neurotoxicity is defined as a structural change or a functional alteration of the nervous system resulting from exposure to a chemical, biological or physical agent. Neurotoxicity including ...
متن کاملRelationship between Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Multiple Sclerosis: A Review Study
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that inflammation, demyelination, oligodendrocyte loss, gliosis, axonal injury and neurodegeneration are the main histopathological hallmarks of the disease. Although MS was classically thought as a demyelinating disease, but axonal injury occurs commonly in acute inflammatory lesions. In MS mi...

The fact that the nucleated center of the nerve cell is the major source of the macromolecular materials required in the maintenance and function of the whole neuron requires the operation of a steady cellulifugal convection of these supplies into and down the nerve fiber. This proximo-distal traffic has been firmly established, but the mechanisms involved in it are still poorly understood. Bes...
متن کاملTransport and turnover of microtubules in frog neurons depend on the pattern of axonal growth.
The transport of axonal microtubules in growing neurites has been a controversial issue because of clear but conflicting results obtained with fluorescence-marking techniques. We have attempted to resolve the discordance via analysis of the relationship between apparent microtubule translocation and cell adhesion. Neuronal cultures were prepared from Xenopus embryos 1 d after injection of Cy3-c...
متن کاملCytoplasmic linker proteins regulate neuronal polarization through microtubule and growth cone dynamics.
Axon formation is a hallmark of initial neuronal polarization. This process is thought to be regulated by enhanced microtubule stability in the subsequent axon and changes in actin dynamics in the future axonal growth cone. Here, we show that the microtubule end-binding proteins cytoplasmic linker protein (CLIP)-115 and CLIP-170 were enriched in the axonal growth cone and extended into the acti...
